Low Budget Underseat Lock Box |
I have been in search of a small, hidden lock box to keep
spare keys, my duty pistol, etc. in when the top is off. I went to Home
Depot in search of bolts for my roof rack and I came across a lockbox
from Husky (the brand of tool boxes they carry) that measured 2"x9"x8"
which was perfect for what I was looking for. For $14 it was worth it
to experiement. The first step was to find a good out of site location
that would be easy to get to. I chose under the passenger seat where
the factory bottle jack was stored. Up until now I just kept my rain
poncho there. The fun part was to break out the sawzall and cut off all
of the bottle jack mounting points. (Tim Allen voice)Sawzalling your
sheetmetal is fun!!(/Tim Allen voice) Since I tossed the bottle jack
long ago in favor of a HiLift, this was a great out of site location.
Here is the mounting points I removed... ![]() Here is how I mounted the box. I fit the lid through the bar on the seat to make drilling the self tapping screws easier. Since the floor steps down a half an inch, I used two half inch spacers for those two screws... ![]() Here is the finished install... ![]() ![]() Here is how one of my handguns fits in the box (it's intended
purpose)...
![]() Here is the box with the seat all the way forward... ![]() Here is the seat all the way back. No box in site! ![]() Here is the view from the side. I will paint the box black but left it red for illustration purposes... ![]() ![]() Can you see the hidden lock box in this picture? ![]() [
