Halloween at Moab 2008

The Denney family is a firm believer in celebrating Holidays on the trail!   With that in mind, a Halloween trip toMoab was planned.    Randall and Judy, Pam and Doug, Melissa,  John and Woody,  and Tom Gilliam set up camp at “Camp Hood” spent a great long weekend wheeling favorite Moab trails.

Although the weather can go either way in late October we were blessed with beautiful sunny days and cool, crisp nights.

Saturday found us on Hell’s Revenge, one of everybodys favorites. With almost no other traffic on the trail, we all got to tackle Hell’s Gate.   A few tires were in the air, but we all made it succesfully.   We then watched the son of a family attempt on his motobike and made it.   He had a cheering section waiting for him at the top.

We even had time to play in the hot tubs.  John had 2 tires in the air for a bit, but pulled right out with a big grin!

Our camp only needed a roaring camp fire to make it complete after a long day on the trail.  Doug really wanted to try out the oven in Ramsey’s new camper, so made cherry cobbler with vanilla ice cream for everyone.     Tom went in search of firewood and returned with enough downed dead wood, to keep us going for several days.  Randall and Judy’s kids met us for some campfire camaraderie

Our second day found us with some overcast but no threat of rain or snow. Flat Iron Mesa was our trail of the day. This is a beautiful, challenging trail with some famous obstacles. We all went up (AND DOWN) Tilt a Whirl, and crawled down Easter Egg Hill. Tom was anxious to see how his new (to him) Cherokee would do, and it went like a champ all weekend. The overcast cleared and we were treated to sunny blue skies for the rest of the day.

The beautiful canyon country pulls us back over and over.   Late fall is a special time with crystal blue skies.   We rarely saw other people and the trails were ours for the weekend.   Our camp was a little oasis and allowed us time to reflect how fortunate we are to have this playground practically in our back yard and how important it is for us to take care of it.

All had success on Tip-Over Challenge

Off camber, with narrow sloping ledge to the canyon rim,  “the Intimidator” is just that!!   Doug was just a little white knuckled after that.   Tom threw a rock over the edge to see how far down the bottom was and then “I wished I hadn’t of done that BEFORE I crossed it”
