"yzermount" Inside HiLift Storage Mount |
I bought the 4xRack for the HiLift but didn't like the looks
and all of the crud that got on the jack by mounting it on either
bumper. The bolts and the wing nuts had a hard time working right as
well due in part to the powder coating all over the bolts. Having
fabricated several dog kennels and fences I was familiar with the
hardware used. Someone on the board posted pictures of how they mounted
their jack on the rear roll bars by drilling through the bars and
running bolts to mount the jack on. I liked the look and location but
thought that by drilling though the roll bars could possible weaken the
bars - not good in case you might ever need them. Using 2 fencing clips
(called "tension bands"), 2 lag bolts, a few washers, wing nuts and
nylon lock nuts I was able to make a mount for each side.
Here is a tension band... ![]() Here are a few pictures of how I mounted them... ![]() ![]() ![]() Using a larger washer behind the lock nut, the brackets stay in place around the roll bar padding. There is a smaller diameter clip for roll bars with out padding. The rectangle clips that secure the jack to the mounts are from the 4xRack kit. I also used the velcro strap that secures the handle to the jack. ![]() ![]() After I took the pictures,
I lowered the mounts and flipped the jack so the arm points down. This
keeps the jack completely out of the way which is important if anybody
rides in the back (with it lower there is no chance anybody could bump
their heads if the Jeep was rear ended). I store the base of the jack
in the back or under the rear seat. The 4xRack runs $24.95 (Quadratec
part number 92200.04) and the other hardware about $5. All in all a
very inexspensive way to store your jack that is clean and secure.
